翁龐野生動物保護區是泰國最大的保護區，也是亞洲重要的生物多樣性庇護所及聯合國教科文組織的世界遺產。其高海拔的雨林孕育了多樣化的野生動物及鳥類。區內密集的河流網絡及泰國最大的瀑布，在當地為期六個月的乾季，對維持生態系統的健康至關重要，亦為各種動物提供了全年所需的食物。
然而，盜獵、人類開發、農業擴張及棕櫚樹種植園的設立對保護區構成重大威脅。透過巡邏人員巡查遏制盜獵和收集保育數據、科學家研究人類活動的影響從而制定出有效的保護策略，以及新一代關注生態的泰國人加入保育行列，正為保護這片自然寶藏帶來希望。

Umphang Sanctuary, Thailand’s largest protected area, is a vital biodiversity refuge in Asia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its high-altitude rainforest supports a diverse array of wildlife and bird species. The sanctuary's dense river network and its largest waterfalls play a crucial role in sustaining this ecosystem during the six-month dry season, providing year-round food for various animal populations.
However, the sanctuary faces significant threats from poaching, human development, agricultural expansion, and the establishment of oil palm plantations. Rangers patrol the area to combat poaching and collect conservation data, while scientists study human impacts to develop effective protection strategies. A new generation of environmentally conscious Thais also offers hope for the preservation of this natural treasure.
