Science: Creating the Future 3
Science progresses rapidly and shapes our future. While fully enjoying the convenience brought by applied technologies, have we ever stopped and thought about whom and what insights the basic science, which laid the foundation for everything, actually originated from?
This episode covers the Future Science Prize 10th Anniversary Special Session, with the theme “How to Run a Successful Prize?”, and where leading global scientists gathered together. “Basic science” explores the origin of the universe, the essence of matter and the life mechanism, which, in spite of being abstract in nature, have far-reaching impacts. On the other hand, “applied science”, just like a relay, continues to transform the results into medical, engineering and electronic technologies, so as to improve human life. Many important scientific awards focus on basic research because it opens up endless possibilities.
How should a scientific award with credibility and long-term impact be operated? In this programme, Professor Anderson Ho-cheung SHUM is invited to be the docent, and listen to the practice wisdom on the selection mechanism, the fairness principle and talent motivation shared by the leading scientists together with the audience. A distinguished award is the key to igniting the spark of science.
