Taxi unions threatening strike / Rise in cervical cancer cases

On Monday’s Backchat, we talk about a potential strike by a cab drivers’ union.

The Hong Kong Tele-call Taxi Association warned that its members could go on strike for at least five days in March, unless authorities take action against illegal ride-hailing services.
This comes as the government is expected to unveil a framework which could lead to the legalisation of currently unregulated private hire services. And while some taxi drivers worry over the future of their trade, not all agree with resorting to industrial action.
After 9:45, we learn more about ways through which people can get screened for cervical cancer, as cases over the past decade jumped by more than 30 percent.

US President Donald Trump's first measures since taking office

    主持人:Brian Wong and Paul Zimmerman

On Friday's Global Focus, we’re talking about US President Donald Trump’s move to dismiss his predecessor’s Diversity, Equality and Inclusion policies (DEI).

The newly sworn-in President has directed all federal agencies to put an end to inclusion programs and restore “merit-based” hirings. Government departments have been ordered to put all DEI staff on paid leave until plans are developed to lay them off.
The new cabinet has also vowed to take a tough stance on immigration through a spate of executive orders expected to give federal agencies more power to tackle illegal immigration. Mr Trump has also ordered to put an end to birthright citizenship, a move strongly condemned by rights groups and several states, 22 of which have launched legal action against what they argue is unconstitutional.
In the second half of the show, we talk about the new administration’s foreign and trade policy.

9:05am-9:30am: Donald Trump's war against diversity policies

9:05am-9:30am: Ron McNinch, Associate Professor of Public Administration, University of Guam
