On this programme, we looked at the conflict in the Middle East, after US President Donald Trump sent confusing signals hinting that the Iran war could end soon. At the same time, Mr Trump is saying that the US could hit the country “twenty times harder”.

After the break, a curator from the Hong Kong Science Museum told us more about the three new permanent galleries in the museum that focus on how modern technology, such as AI, robotics, and biotechnology, shapes daily life and future innovations.

Canadian election results / SME business sentiment

    主持人:Azam Khan and John Bruce

On Wednesday’s Backchat, we talked about the Canadian election results, as the Liberal Party's Mark Carney holds on to power and remains the country’s Prime Minister.

The Liberal Party’s victory seemed uncertain a few months ago, but the return of Donald Trump to the White House, his tariffs and comments about the country seem to have united Canadians behind the economist-turned-politician, whose defiant stance on Trump contrasted sharply with that of his Conservative rival, Pierre Poilievre.
Carney has pledged to take a tough approach in dealing with the Trump administration while strengthening ties with the European Union. But, having fallen short of securing a majority government, this may be easier said than done. What challenges lie ahead for the new government?
In the last part of the show, we explored a study analysing business sentiment amongst SMEs in the city.

    9:05am-9:47am: Canadian election results

9:05am-9:47am: Alejandro Reyes, Professor at the Department of Politics and Public Administration,The University of Hong Kong

9:05am-9:47am: Richard Wright, author, former Legislative Assistant and past Federal Liberal Riding Association President

9:05am-9:47am: James Thomson-Sakhrani, Vice President of the Canadian Club of Hong Kong and Managing Director of the Amber Foundation
9:47am-10:00am: Trade war and business sentiment
