URA's new tendering platform set to launch / Shau Kei Wan water burst / China-Thailand high speed rail / Global viral genomic blueprint development

    Presenters:Philip Wong and John Bruce

On this programme, we chat with a surveyor to learn about a new tendering platform that is set to be launched by the Urban Renewal Authority in the fourth quarter of this year. The platform is aimed at curbing bid-rigging and increase transparency of building maintenance contracts.

An engineer then tell us all about the recent water supply cuts in Shau Kei Wan that affected residents and businesses for more than 20 hours, re-igniting discussions over the city's ageing water pipes.

After the break, we turn our attention to Thailand as the kingdom's government aims to complete the construction of a 250km section of a high-speed rail line that will connect it to China by 2030, after Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul concluded a five-day visit to the country.

And finally, we look at a study by a research team from the University of Hong Kong that has developed a global viral genomic blueprint, targetting surveillance at two major aviation hubs to accelerate the detection of future pandemic variants.
