National Security Law; Legacy of the late Stanley Ho

On Thursday's Backchat, more on the National People's Congress' plan to draft a National Security Law for Hong Kong.

Police said they had arrested almost 300 people on suspicion of illegal assembly by around 5pm on Wednesday, after moving to stamp out protests against Hong Kong's incoming national anthem and national security laws. The protests came ahead of the afternoon debate among lawmakers to criminalise insults to the national anthem with up to three years in jail.

Tsai Ing-wen meanwhile has pledged to draw up a plan to give humanitarian relief to people
    involved in Hong Kong's protests.

What do you make of developments? Do you agree that it would only be right to ban foreign judges in Hong Kong from presiding over cases involving national security?

Backchat - Transitional housing and Disneyland, Iran and US

    主持人:Hugh Chiverton and Rachel Cartland

On Wednesday's Backchat, Disneyland and transitional housing. Housing Secretary Frank Chan has urged Hong Kong Disneyland to give up a site reserved for Disney's future expansion to unlock land for transitional homes. Property developer Wheelock said it will use 500,000 square feet of its land to build 2,000 transitional housing units, while Henderson Land Development is to lend a parcel of land to the government for seven years with the same aim. What do you make of the Disney idea, and other promises on transitional housing? Is it a welcome, short term relief from queues for public housing, or does it dodge the main issue? 8:30-9:15 David Webb, Editor of Webb-site.com 8:30-9:15 Dr Tom Yam, Member, Citizens Task Force for Land Supply In the second half of the programme from 9:15-9:30, we'll be talking to the Acting Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Hong Kong & Macao and a Middle East affairs expert on Iran and US relations after the killing of the Iranian military chief Qasem Soleimani 9:15--9:30 Seyed Reza Hosseini, Acting Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Hong Kong & Macao. 9:15-9:30 Shahram Akbarzadeh, Research Professor of Middle East & Central Asian Politics.
