Sino-Australia relations / Chinese spacecraft landing on the moon

On Friday's Backchat, Sino-Australian relations and China's spacecraft landing on the moon. Relations between Australia and China, its largest trading partner, have soured since Morrison called for an independent international investigation into the origins of the coronavirus pandemic earlier this year. China has blocked billions of dollars worth of Australian exports from lobsters to wine in recent months, all the while refusing to accept phone calls from Australian ministers.

Ties soured further this week when a senior Chinese official posted an image/cartoon of an Australian soldier holding a knife with blood on it to the throat of an Afghan child, prompting Morrison to demand an apology from Beijing.

What are the impacts on both sides? How can the matter be resolved? Is this a long-term thing?

From 9:15am-9:30am, we'll be discussing China's spacecraft landing on the moon surface earlier this week.

Let us know your thoughts, you can leave a message on our Facebook, Backchat on RTHK Radio 3, email us at backchat@rthk.hk or give us a call on 23388266.

    The Hong Kong 12

    主持人:Hugh Chiverton and Danny Gittings

On Friday’s Backchat, the Hong Kong 12.
Hundreds of people marched in Taipei at the weekend to demand the release of 12 Hong Kong anti-government protesters who were arrested by mainland authorities in August.
The 12 were apparently fleeing by boat to Taiwan when the mainland coast guard detained them. They are now in Shenzhen.
On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, people demonstrated in at least a dozen cities across the world – from New York to Vancouver to Adelaide in Australia – in support of those who were arrested, in a campaign called #save12hkyouths.
A local online rally was also held.
Are the 12 simply criminals fleeing justice? What do you think of the way they are being treated? What do you make of the international attention? Should the HK Government offer assistance?
