On Tuesday’s Backchat: As mixed signals emerge from the latest round of meetings between Chinese and American diplomats, we’ll be exploring whether Sino-US ties are starting to stabilise after months of angry rhetoric.

The meetings began badly with Vice Foreign Minister Xie Feng telling visiting US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman that bilateral relations had reached a “stalemate”, only to end on a marginally more positive note after the US said it did not “seek conflict” with China.

But both sides remain at odds over many issues – including the tit-for-tat sanctions imposed over Hong Kong last week. So is there any sign relations will improve? Or do we have to accept that uneasy ties between the US and China is the new normal?

Also on Tuesday’s show, why did it take police so long to smash two illegal car parking syndicates in Jordan?

On Friday's Backchat, Hong Kong's new political landscape and the latest in the US.

It seems that the Pan-democratic camp, the most popular in Hong Kong will be completely wiped out. Will there be any new opposition? What part will the DAB, FTU and the new Bauhinia Party play in the future political culture? What happens to the supporters of the pan-dems? How will the new Hong Kong work politically?

From 9-930am we'll be discussing the latest situation in the US, as Congress finalizes Joe Biden's victory.
