On Friday's Backchat: The housing shortage, and a spate of invasive Group B Streptococcus cases.

Our main topic is the new law just passed by Legco that will limit rent increases for subdivided flats to 10 percent… at the end of a two-year contract. But some lawmakers are concerned that there’s no regulation on the initial rent level.

And Housing minister Frank Chan also raised eyebrows in the council when he acknowledged that it would take as long as 20 years to bring waiting times for public flats down to three years.

So how is the government doing on housing for the grassroots? Is there enough short-term help for people?

After 9.15am, we’ll be looking at dozens of people who’ve recently caught Group B Strep infections… and the role of fresh fish in the outbreak…

Speaking at the ceremony which marks the beginning of Legal Year 2021, the Secre-tary Justice Teresa Cheng said " Doxxing activities towards judges and other persons involved in the administration of justice was on the rise and must be curtailed. "

The Chief Justice, Andrew Cheung, has also condemned unfounded attacks on judg-es, saying an independent and impartial judiciary must be maintained in Hong Kong.
