The Hospital Authority is sending a delegation to certain medical colleges in the UK, where many Hong Kong students are studying, in the hope of addressing a current shortage of medical personnel at home.

And the HA Chief Executive, Tony Ko, will attend an event held by the Hong Kong Medical Society of the United Kingdom on Saturday in London to explain details of how overseas doctors could practise in the SAR. The next day there'll be a recruitment day for medical students, interns, and trainees as well as specialists.

After 9:45, we’re going to be talking about an adoption programme for abandoned exotic pets, including lizards, geckos and turtles.

Rise in the minimum wage to HK$40 per hour; ‘reduce and remove’ therapy for liver cancer patients

9:15am-9:30am: Albert Chan, Clinical Professor, Department of Surgery, School of Clinical Medicine, Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong

On Thursday’s Backchat, we’re looking at the rise in the minimum wage to HK$40 per hour after a four-year freeze.

Almost 90,000 workers are expected to get a HK$2.50 an hour increase from May onwards. But labour unions said the minimum wage should be raised to at least $46 since grassroots workers have struggled to maintain their living standards in the past few years.

Meanwhile, employers said the level of increase was “acceptable”, especially after the city has suffered at least three years of economic hardship.

So you think $40 per hour is fair? How much difference will this make – to both workers and employers?

After 9:15am, we’ll look at a new study on how ‘reduce and remove’ therapy could help treat liver cancer patients.
