Future Investment Initiative Institutes Summit / Taylor Swift: Time Magazine's person of the year 2023

On Friday's Backchat, we're talking about Hong Kong’s status as an international finance hub.

Earlier this week the government hit out at Moody’s decision to change the credit outlook of Hong Kong to "negative" from "stable". It stressed that Hong Kong’s tight links with the mainland are a source of strength for the territory’s long-term development, not a rating constraint.
And despite Moody’s downgrade, the Future Investment Initiative Institutes Summit is currently taking place here-- the second international financial event held in Hong Kong within two weeks.
Organisers say Hong Kong was chosen to host the event precisely because it’s a global financial and investment hub that serves as a bridge to the mainland and the rest of Asia.
So, how is Hong Kong doing as an international financial hub? What’s behind the Moody’s downgrade?
After 9:45am, we look at Taylor Swift - Time magazine's person of the year.

On Friday’s Backchat we're talking about cross-harbour tunnel toll changes

From 2 August, the tolls on all three cross-harbour tunnels will be adjusted, as part of the government’s two-part plan to ease cross-harbour congestion.

In the first part, the toll for private cars taking the Western Harbour Crossing will go down to HK$60, while those on the Cross-Harbour Tunnel and Eastern Harbour Crossing will go up to HK$30. But taxis will enjoy a flat rate of HK$25 for all three tunnels.

And in the second part of the plan that will be implemented by the end of this year, rush-hour fares for private cars and motorcycles will be introduced.

How effective will this plan be in easing cross-harbour congestion? Will motorists encounter any practical problems?

After 9:45, we will stick with transport, and look at the MTRC’s new fare adjustment mechanism
