Flexible working trends / China Space Day

On Thursday's Backchat, we’re asking if flexible working is becoming the new normal.

Singapore has just announced that employers must consider employees’ requests for four-day weeks and work from home from December onwards.
First introduced in response to COVID, hybrid working has also become a permanent feature of working life at many workplaces in Hong Kong, allowing employers to save money on office space w45am-10:00amhile boosting workers’ morale.
So should Hong Kong follow Singapore’s example and introduce a formal process for employees to request flexible work arrangements? We'll find out.
After 9:45, we'll talk about China's Space Day, which coincides with the launch of the Shenzhou-18 spaceship.

New rules on subsidised flats / Discounted cinema tickets

    主持人:Janice Wong and Andrew Work

On Friday's Backchat, we're talking about housing.

A Housing Authority committee has decided to plug a loophole that had previously allowed public housing tenants to apply for Home Ownership Scheme flats – even if they own a private home.

The prominent case of a murder suspect found to own a subsidised flat despite also owning a luxury property on Kadoorie Hill had brought attention to the issue.

Now, anyone who has owned a property within a two-year period is banned from buying a subsidised flat.

So what does this all mean? How will this affect the waiting time for public housing?

After 9:45am, we'll look at ticket sales for the $30 cinema day on Saturday.

9:00am - 9:45am: New rules on subsidised flats

9:00am-9:45am: Dr. Rita Li, Director of the Sustainable Real Estate Research Centre, Associate Professor at the Department of Economics and Finance, Shue Yan University
