Asian Financial Forum / Where are Asian economies headed? / Construction accidents

On Wednesday’s Backchat, we’re looking into where the Asian economies are headed, and whether businesses in the region are prepared for a potential return in US tariffs.

Speaking at the Asian Financial Forum, Financial Secretary Paul Chan urged Hong Kong businesses to seize opportunities in emerging markets, citing the Middle East, ASEAN, and the Global South as examples.
Last week, the minister led a 130-strong delegation to Jakarta and met with top ASEAN officials, discussing ways to facilitate trade with the 10-member block.
With looming uncertainties over US President-elect Donald Trump’s policy direction, some argue that now is the time for Asian economies to come together and strengthen multilateral cooperation. Can Hong Kong be the super-connector?
In the last part of the show, we discuss calls by labour groups to better protect industrial workers, following two separate construction accidents in less than 24 hours.

French legislative election results / Passing of the child abuse reporting law

    主持人:Andrew Work and Paul Zimmerman

On Friday's Backchat, Global Focus looks into the French parliamentary election results.

The right-wing National Rally was beaten into third place by the left-wing New Popular Front, followed by the Macron-led centrist group Renaissance, as several candidates from both the left and centre dropped out of the second round of voting to prevent the rise of Marine Le Pen's party.
But while the strategy paid off, the New Popular Front failed to gain an absolute majority, meaning that the country's legislature could be paralysed unless opposing political forces can reach an agreement.
In a letter to the nation, French President Emmanuel Macron saluted French voters' rejection of the National Rally, but acknowledged challenges ahead at a time when different factions hope to head the government.
Meanwhile, National Rally leader Jordan Bardella blamed an "alliance of dishonour" while adding that his party won the most votes and remained the "only alternative".
Is France becoming ungovernable? We find out.

After 9:50, we speak to a children's rights advocate as Legco just passed the child abuse reporting law.
