    18/01/2025 - Alicja Kwade - Polish-visual artist

"Pretopia", is Polish-visual artist Alicja Kwade’s first solo institutional exhibition in Hong Kong. The artwork reflects on our perception of time, and proposes new perspectives for viewing and understanding reality. The venue for the exhibition, Tai Kwun — which housed the former Victoria Prison — also adds another dimension to the exhibit. CultureZine’s Ingrid Chen visited the exhibition and spoke to Alicia. First, she asked how this collaboration got started and where she got her inspirations from:

18/01/2025 - Rebecca Chuang - Hong Kong Arts Centre / Christy Hui - Facilitator of the "Ivy Says:" art project

CultureZine’s Carol Mang has just explored Tai Kok Tsui and joined a special event there called - “Ivy says: Intergenerational music theatre performance“. It’s organized by the Hong Kong Arts Centre, and aims to use performing arts to enhance connections between the elderly, children and young artists within the community. Carol went to find out more:

    18/01/2025 - Takuma Fujisaki - Japanese artist

Shaggy and fluffy are words often used to describe the colorful monster aliens or mogols created by Japanese artist Takuma Fujisaki.. The mogols are created using pipe cleaners — basically flexible wires covered in colorful fibre … and these monsters that have been gaining popularity around the world are now in Hong Kong. CultureZine’s Halim checked it out:

18/01/2025 - Professor Stephen Tang - Head of Countryside Conservation Office

Finally on CultureZine, we look at the Countryside Harvest Festival that kicks off today at Kuk Po Village in Sha Tau Kok . It features rich eco-adventures, historical architecture and vibrant cultural experiences. 04/01/2025 - Asif Mohammed Khan - comedian and filmmaker

It’s the New Year and why not start it off with a good laugh. And that’s what Asif Mohammed Khan, a lawyer turned comedian and filmmaker hopes to do in a few days’ time at a special show. Janice Wong met up with Asif who told her about his journey into comedy, his most memorable comedic moments, and what can be expected from his upcoming show:

04/01/2025 - Judy Gee - open water swimmer and artist

Swimming in the pool is one thing, and swimming in the open water is something else entirely - especially when you’re sharing the ocean with sharks and other marine predators lurking in the depths. It’s something that’s not for everyone, but artist Judy Gee wants to bring you her experience as an open water swimmer through her paintings. CultureZine’s Ingrid Chen visited her studio in Wong Chuk Hang to have a chat:

04/01/2025 - Elizabeth Kerr- film critic

And finally on this week’s CultureZine, we hear from film critic Elizabeth Kerr, who told Danny Gittings and Car Ha what movies to watch out for this year:
