Scottish missionary Robert Morrison arrived in China in 1807 with the goal of evangelizing the country, despite a strict ban on teaching the Chinese language to foreigners. Yet, in 1823, he published the first Chinese translation of the Bible, paving the way for future missionaries to make a profound impact in Hong Kong.
