In the autumn of 2017, AnneMarie Evans visited Michael Wright, who was born on the Peak in 1912. The three-part series went on air in February 2018, one month after his passing. In the first episode, Wright looked back on his “very, very happy childhood” in Hong Kong and his life leading up to the Second World War.

In 1859, 22-year-old American George Washington Farley Heard came to China to join his uncle’s then successful trading house, but became an attaché to the American Legation. In this 2019 episode, AnneMarie Evans and author Gillian Bickley, who edited Heard’s journals into Through American Eye: the Journals of George Washington (Farley) Heard, discuss Heard’s life and his personal accounts of major historical events such as the Second Opium War.
