Every weekday from noon, The Brew is a chat and music show. Hosted by Phil Whelan, guests include regular contributors and drop-ins, who span topics from current affairs to cookery, sport, the arts, technology, and music... lots of music.
Today on The Brew, we cross to New York at 12:10 to check in with Tracy Quan for her latest slice of life from the city. RTL France’s Philippe Dova is taking a break today as he's busy on tour in France, but will return next week. And then, at 1:25, Paul Archibald joins us from Bangkok for ‘Classical’ Music Day. Today, he wants to share with you a bit of the high drama of opera. Moving past the usual clichés of people loudly dying of consumption, forbidden love, accidental family marriages, dramatic stabbings, or drinking mysterious potions, he'll be looking at the characters who actually show incredible inner strength in the face of major adversity—which, let's face it, is pretty much standard for opera.

Welcome to Wednesday. This is The Brew. Our friend and NYC correspondent Tracy Quan is back at 12:10, with her thoughts and things for the week. Then at 12:40 we'll hear from RTL France's Philippe Dova, who once again comes to you from Siem Reap in Cambodia. We have a 'classical' music day with a difference this week, highlighting the music (of this genre) from... Africa. It's wonderfull too, often blending Western classical forms with traditional African elements and instruments. Paul Archibald will fill us in at 1:25... live from Bangkok.
