Every weekday from noon, The Brew is a chat and music show. Hosted by Phil Whelan, guests include regular contributors and drop-ins, who span topics from current affairs to cookery, sport, the arts, technology, and music... lots of music.
It’s Wednesday onThe Brew. Our overseas panel of experts are otherwise engaged today. Tracy Quan’s still enjoying a little New York holiday, and RTL France’s Philippe Dova is enjoying being asleep, as in Europe it’s even earlier now with the clocks shifting back an hour. Fair play. He’ll be back in Singapore next week. At 1:25 it’s Classical Music Day with Paul Archibald, live from Bangkok, and with a touch of the creepy-crawlies, as it’s nearly Halloween. Plenty of composers have written music that gives you a proper shiver. Today includes Charles Ives’ 'Halloween', a short, chaotic piece that piles instruments on top of each other, and the 'Dream of a Witches’ Sabbath' from Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique, the famous movement where the hero imagines his own funeral turned into a wild dance of witches. Not bad for a guitarist!
