Chinese mainland's strengthening partnership with ASEAN

This week, we’ll explore the strengthening partnership between China and neighbouring countries, particularly members of ASEAN—the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
China has been the bloc’s largest trading partner for 16 consecutive years, while ASEAN has been China’s top trading partner for the past five years. And about two months ago in November, the two sides upgraded the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area to a “3.0 version”, signalling a push to future-proof Asia’s trade flows. What's the history behind this relationship? What opportunities are on the horizon?

Weekly Roundup / Importance of China-India relations

    主持人:CM Chan and Chloe Feng

This week we find out more about  the importance of China-India relations, which received a boost as Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. The two sides are gearing up for Mr Modi's visit to the mainland later this month  - his first trip to China in seven years.

Ahead of the state visit, the two most populous nations have agreed to resume direct flights and tourist visas, as well increase  trade and investment. So why are relations between the two countries so important? And will high US tariffs and a recent downturn in US-India relations push these two nations closer together amid the rise of the Global South?

CM Chan and Chloe Feng will discuss these questions with Josef Gregory Mahoney, professor of politics and international relations at East China Normal University.
Tune in this Saturday morning at 08:30am on Radio 3!
