This week, Chloe Feng and Brian Wong will look at the recent heartwarming film,“Dear You", which premiered quietly in late April with no major promotion. Yet over the past few weeks, it has steadily gained national attention, climbing to an impressive average rating of 9.1 out of 10 on Douban, China's leading review platform—making it the highest-rated film released in the country so far this year. The low-budget film is centered on Qiaopi - letters containing money that overseas Chinese sent home via parallel traders or couriers in the past-and this has sparked reflection and nostalgia, especially among overseas Chinese who once sought their fortunes in Southeast Asia. So what made the film so special? And what is Qiaopi all about? Chloe and Brian discusses this with Professor Lawrence Pang, founding president of the Academy of Chinese Wisdom and Management.
