Music aficionado and band leader Colin Aitchison presents the musicians who were the huge, million-selling recording stars of an often forgotten era.
Before Bruno Mars, there was Bing Crosby, before the likes of Adele, there was Billie Holiday ... and before Justin Bieber ... well, where to start!?!
There’s some terrific music and stories from the '20s, '30s, '40s and '50s, plus a few laughs!
Every Sunday, 8.30am-9am
This week, Billy Murray joins Jean Goldkette and his orchestra with a four leaf clover from 1927, a big seller in the 1950s from a young man whose career lasted only 18 months, a properly “crazy” arrangement from Jeri Southern, and just as wild, we have the story of Robin Hood from King Louie! Plus, Colin takes a look at the year 1924.
While Colin was on holiday in the UK, he walked into a charity shop selling 78rpm records… and he walked out with not only a bargain or two, but also a radio programme! On his shopping list this week: Sid Phillips and his band, Billy May, Vaughn Monroe, an artist Colin had never heard of performing Meet Me On The Corner, and the spectacular line up of The Metronome All-Stars.
