We’re featuring all kinds of wild and interesting characters, this week. Their careers and their stories, including the legend of a Boswell Sisters recording session where the producer finally worked out how the musicians were somehow, quietly, getting SO progressively sauced during recording! Another character who was pretty much a household name at one point in the uk, George Chisholm. His career lasted over 60 years and Colin has chosen a swinging recording from 1944. Also, music from Dennis Lotus with Ted Heath, Vicki Young, Guy Lombardo and Irving Kaufman.
We have one of the most well known trumpet solos this week from a huge Duke Ellington chart topper of 1941. In 1928, Jimmy Noone’s Apex Club Orchestra had some fun in the studio in Chicago, with some good old fashioned hokum! A song from the ‘50s that has received over 100 cover versions, our version comes from The Clovers. Also in the 50s, an early concept album, kinda, from Carman McRea and her record 'Birds of a Feather', featuring 'Bye Bye Blackbird'.

Among the goodies, this week, Colin tells us about the songwriters of a 1950s tune that are, now, more of a paper trail of where the money went, rather than a true indication of the people who actually wrote the song! We get all kilted up for the Eric Delaney band who go a roamin’ in 1956 on early vinyl still running at 78rpm. And, there's a 1936 recording featuring a wonderful, young, new singer… Vera Lynn.
