Music aficionado and band leader Colin Aitchison presents the musicians who were the huge, million-selling recording stars of an often forgotten era.
Before Bruno Mars, there was Bing Crosby, before the likes of Adele, there was Billie Holiday ... and before Justin Bieber ... well, where to start!?!
There’s some terrific music and stories from the '20s, '30s, '40s and '50s, plus a few laughs!
Every Sunday, 8.30am-9am
Two, count them, two, yes I said TWO eye tunes this week. Top sellers both of them. One from Emile Ford, doo-woppin’ right at the end of the ‘50s. The other from Stan Greening & his band. We’re rockin’ the blues with Josephine Bradley, hitting the ‘66 with Bobby Troup, and much more.
It's Vintage sounds of the summer this week, with Ethel Waters and a hot Irving Berlin song from the Broadway review As Thousands Cheer. There'sa 1958 recording for the Hallmark label from the Paul Newman movie The Long Hot Summer, and an amazing sounding record of Jack Payne and his orchestra, playing with precision and power in 1932. Plus, a 1931 hit revived in 1957 for the movie Bernardine... all based on a Sandy Beach.
