Music aficionado and band leader Colin Aitchison presents the musicians who were the huge, million-selling recording stars of an often forgotten era.
Before Bruno Mars, there was Bing Crosby, before the likes of Adele, there was Billie Holiday ... and before Justin Bieber ... well, where to start!?!
There’s some terrific music and stories from the ‘20s, ‘30s, ‘40s and ‘50s, plus a few laughs!
(Every Sunday, 8.30am-9am )
This week on VCT, Louis Prima sets the tone with his original sing n' swing. We have the amazing and sad story of Ken Snakehips Johnson, and there's a 1927 recording that was always very popular on Trafalgar night. Don Cherry makes a welcome return to the charts in 1956, and Bill Hayes is featured playing the most famous version of a very popular TV show theme. All this, plus, a magical performance from the long forgotten Peggy Connelly.
Not only do we have a Riverboat Shuffle this week on VCT, but a handful of 78s and early vinyl featuring some 50s do-wop and jazz, classic ragtime, and... a hot Spanish number as well.
