The Summer Special
This week, as clear as a bell, we've a recording from 1927 featuring a star of The Folies Bergère, with quite the story to tell. We have a summertime classic on a huge 12inch 78rpm disc from Artie Shaw and an all star band, a 1938 recording from the artist who had her name shortened by the record company to fit on the label, and a big theme from a Paul Newman/Orson Welles movie in 1958 - 'The Long Hot Summer'.

Our annual special observing of 'the 11th hour of the 11th month', honouring the armed forces who died in the line of duty, and ahead of the ceremony held at the Cenotaph in Central. Our show features Anne Shelton, Bob Crosby, The Central Band Of The Royal Airforce, and The Hong Kong Police Band, to name a few. Plus the voices of Churchill, Sir John Gielgud, and, of course, Vera Lynn.
