普契尼的《托斯卡》自1900年在羅馬首演以來，一直是歌劇愛好者最喜愛和最常演出的劇目之一。像《蝴蝶夫人》一樣，女主角在故事結束前痛失愛人，托斯卡選擇從高處一躍而下，結束自己的生命。《托斯卡》的音樂以通作式（Through-composed）的手法寫成，感覺一氣呵成，擺脫了過去宣敘調和詠嘆調的創作方式。歌劇中兩首詠嘆調：女高音的《為了藝術，為了愛情》及男高音的《今夜星光燦爛》都是焦點之作。
Since its premiere in Rome in 1900, Puccini’s ‘Tosca’ has captivated audiences worldwide and remains one of the most frequently performed operas in the repertoire. Similar to ‘Madama Butterfly’, the opera features a female protagonist who tragically takes her own life after losing her beloved. In the final moment, Tosca chooses to fling herself over the edge. The music of ‘Tosca’ was written in a through-composed manner, further departing from the traditional recitative and aria format. The two arias, ‘Vissi d’arte’ and ‘E lucevan le stelle’, sung by Tosca and Cavaradossi respectively, are the highlights of this magnificent opera.
