WHERE ART AND MUSIC COLLIDE
In this episode we look at Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s Dance at Le Moulin de la Galette - a masterpiece of French Impressionism and a celebration of happiness and prosperity - a fête galante set in a 'modern' Paris park. We’ll hear ‘dance music’ by Offenbach, Berlioz and Ravel to set the mood.
In this episode we revisit Gustav Klimt and look at two of his paintings. Music (1895) is a captivating representation of Klimt’s early explorations into the synergy of art and music. And, we look at Klimt's Schubert at the Piano (1899) - his portrayal of the musician. Delights by Beethoven and Schubert make the connection between the two art forms.

As we continue making connections between music and the visual arts, in this episode we explore the Salome connection through the artwork of Aubrey Beardsley and the music of Richard Strauss, and the artwork of Gustav Klimt and a string quartet by Robert Xavier Rodriguez. We will also hear a rare recording of Gustav Mahler at the piano with a piece of music from the time.
