WHERE ART AND MUSIC COLLIDE
In this episode we look at Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s Dance at Le Moulin de la Galette - a masterpiece of French Impressionism and a celebration of happiness and prosperity - a fête galante set in a 'modern' Paris park. We’ll hear ‘dance music’ by Offenbach, Berlioz and Ravel to set the mood.

We revisit Paul Klee (1879-1940) - a Swiss-born artist who is best known for his unique style of expressionistic painting. His works are characterised by a playful use of colour and line, often featuring abstract forms and figures. He found the means to embody musical rules in the construction of his paintings, helping to evolve the very nature of the art form. It is hardly surprising that a number of composers have musically encoded Klee’s paintings as well. We will hear from some of these composers.
