Over the past years, a number of large-scale public museums have been completed and opened, , Hong Kong is also home to “private museums” established and operated by individual collectors, private enterprises, charitable organizations, foundations, and universities. At present, Hong Kong has not established a museum accreditation system, and the existing Museums Regulation only covers public museums. What is the current landscape of “private museums” in Hong Kong? And what measures are being taken by different sectors to provide support?

Abolition of MPF Offsetting

The abolition of the MPF offsetting arrangement took effect on 1 May 2025. To ease the transition, the Government has introduced a subsidy scheme to help employers cover part of the severance and long service payments under the new system.
