The Works
In October, the multi-talented singer-songwriter, arranger and producer Jon Shen chatted to us about how he made the switch from driving as a professional go-kart racer to making music. Later, he’ll be talking to us about the particular significance of Gospel music in his life. But on the subject of the new year, the ancient Chinese tradition of following the sun’s annual path, “The 24 Solar Terms” created by farmers to guide their agricultural activities, is still observed in our decidedly less rural society. And it provides the inspiration for new work by the artist Song Dong.
Two local artists: Yung Wing-yan, who specialises in wood, and bamboo artist Lam Ka-yu, are presenting works inspired by tea, tea culture, and the day-to-day aesthetics of the Song dynasty. For the exhibition, "The Shape of Tea" at the at Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware, they've created 20 new sets of works that include wooden tea bowls and delicate bamboo tea ware, as well as large installations that explore the shape and form of tea .
