The annual International Arts Carnival is back! From July to August, troupes and artists from the UK, Spain, Canada, Korea, the Mainland and Hong Kong present more than 100 family-friendly performances and events, featuring acrobatics, dance, music, theater and multimedia. The Carnival also brings art into the community. “Imagine! Play!” will feature community picnics and free interactive art exhibitions at the East Kowloon Cultural Centre and Yuen Long Theatre. Volleyball Nations League Hong Kong is returning to the Kai Tak Arena from 8 to 12 July, with 12 intense matches over the five days. The six powerhouses include China’s women’s team that many people are excited about, defending champion and winner of last year’s FIVB World Championship, world number one Italy, as well as the Dominican Republic, Canada, Belgium and Ukraine. The tournament has a total of 18 teams. featuring six teams from three pools each week. Hong Kong is one of the pools. After three weeks of preliminaries, the eight highest-ranked teams will advance to the finals in Macao at the end of July.

Chicken is a food ingredient commonly used in both home-cooked meals and banquets for family and friends. Different parts of chicken vary in mouthfeel and nutritional value. Chicken is rich in protein and unsaturated fatty acids, but it is important to note that chicken skin is high in fat, and skinless chicken is healthier. Volunteer service brings hope and light to people in need, spreading positive energy throughout the community. In 2024, the Civil Service Bureau launched the Civil Service Volunteer Commendation Scheme to recognise civil service volunteer teams and officers who have demonstrated outstanding performance in participating in or promoting volunteer service. This episode introduces some of the award-winning volunteer teams and individual award recipients under the 2025 Civil Service Volunteer Commendation Scheme, including: The Correctional Services Department’s Oi Kwan Volunteer Group Limited — Drawing on their professional knowledge of dog training, the volunteer team works with animal welfare organisations to provide regular monthly training for dogs awaiting adoption, helping them learn basic manners and simple commands to improve their chances of being adopted. The team also invites various youth groups to take part in these activities, with the aim of inspiring others through these encounters and promoting the messages of animal care and respect for life. Electrical and Mechanical Services Department Staff Club Volunteer Services Team — Making use of their professional electrical and mechanical expertise, the volunteer team helps elderly people living alone or elderly couples by replacing household light bulbs with energy-efficient LED bulbs, while also providing information and advice on electrical safety in the home. Though changing a light bulb may seem like a small act, it not only helps reduce electricity expenses, but also minimises potential household hazards and enhances quality of life for the elderly.

In Sai Kung Hoi, there are many different kinds of small islands forming the unique seascape. On one of the small islands which is surrounded by the sea on four sides, there is the only remaining salt pan in Hong Kong. The technique and equipment for making salt with sea water had disappeared for over a century. The village representative CHAN Chung-yin, with his affection for the homeland, insisted to bring back the salt pan. To CHAN, this means not only a stream and a grain of sea salt, but an important witness to the nurturing of ten generations of Yim Tin Tsai villagers. On the island, there is a Hakka village with a history of 300 years. Given the changes of time, all inhabitants on the island moved out in the 1990s, and the island has once become deserted. Nevertheless, the beautiful coastal scenery has attracted LIU Wai-fung and his wife to move from the urban area and settle down here. He even transformed a dilapidated village house into a stylish small house himself to live a unique seaside life. Bond SHUM, the ecology researcher, has discovered the lively side of this tranquil island. Having conducted ecological research in Yim Tin Tsai for more than a year, he observed that diverse species shine through on this small island. In this episode, let’s see how three persons from different backgrounds came to the only salt island in Hong Kong with their own sentiments!
