HKTDC's promotion campaign in Italy / New WestK Ferry / Building a comprehensive retirement system

On Monday's Backchat, we talked to a director of the Trade Development Council about its "Think Business, Think Hong Kong" mega promotion campaign in Milan, Italy, later this month. This comes as a recent survey found that many Italian companies are interested in expanding into Hong Kong and mainland markets in the next few years.

Separately, the council is organising a two-day Asian Logistics, Maritime and Aviation Conference at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
After the break, we heard from the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority about its new pier -- WestK Quay -- and the WestK ferry service which just launched on Saturday.

And finally, we talked to a think tank about how Hong Kong can develop a better and more comprehensive retirement system.

    US tariffs / Diving safety

    主持人:Azam Khan and Mike Rowse

US President Donald Trump earlier rolled out sweeping tariffs targeting most countries, including some of America’s closest allies. Analysts have called this move the most protectionist action taken by a US government in a century.

Despite growing criticism at home and abroad, President Trump is defending his position, arguing that the policies of other countries have been "unjust" to the United States.
Tariffs are hitting as high as 34 percent on goods from China, 24 percent on products from Japan, and 20 percent on the European Union. This dramatic yet expected shift has sent shockwaves through global markets and sparked fierce criticism from the affected nations.
Beijing is already retaliating with 34 percent additional tariffs on US imports. In a statement published by the Xinhua News Agency, the central government urged the US to stop using tariffs as a "weapon to suppress China’s economy and trade", adding that Washington was undermining the rules-based multilateral trading system.
Meanwhile, here in Hong Kong — which is recognised as a separate customs territory from the mainland — Financial Secretary Paul Chan said that there will be no countermeasures implemented for now. He also reassured investors that the SAR remains committed to keeping the flow of capital free, despite US pressure.

In the latter part of the show, we spoke to a veteran diver, after a Hong Kong woman died in the Philippines during a highly demanding technical dive.
