World Radio Day / Balochistan violence / New dating trends / AI-powered music robot

In the spirit of World Radio Day, we kicked off this Backchat by speaking to the Head of Radio at Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union to learn more about listening trends around the world.

After that, we talked to a political analyst on the recent violence that took place in Pakistan's south-western province of Balochistan. Pakistan's military recently concluded a week-long operation in the region against insurgency, following a deadly attack last month by separatists.
After the break, we brought the latest dating trends that are capturing the hearts of people across China.
And finally, we learned more about what happens when you combine music and robots with empathetic speech. A local university research team has discovered that this combination may foster a stronger bond between humans and machines.

Have AI bots gone rogue? / Red bugs spotted across HK / WestK Shanghai Week 2025

    主持人:Azam Khan and Philip Wong

On Thursday's Backchat, we looked into the latest tech developments in which AI could be seen going rogue.
According to recent reports, AI chatbot models are becoming dangerous and showing disturbing new traits, picking up behaviour like deception, scheming, and even threats against their creators.
How worrying is this phenomenon? Is it concerning that firms are continuing to push ahead with developing ever-more-powerful models when they lack a full understanding of their creations’ inner workings?
After the break, we turned our attention to swamps of big, red ants that have recently emerged in Sha Tin, Tai Wai, Yuen Long and Tin Shui Wai. More commonly known as “red fire ants”, experts say their secretions can trigger severe allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.
And finally, we spoke to the head of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority to learn more about the WestK Shanghai Week, which wrapped up successfully last month. We also found out about WestK's upcoming plans to further expand its regional and global footprint.
