Tung Chung MTR line extension / Visa applicants needing to declare prior convictions

On Monday's Backchat, we're talking about the planned extension to the Tung Chung MTR line.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Thursday to mark the start of construction work.
Scheduled for completion in 2029, the project will include two new stations -- Tung Chung East and Tung Chung West -- and is part of the broader development of the area which is underway and which will result in a big increase in population.
The new stations will eventually allow more convenient access for many to the MTR. However, critics have voiced dissatisfaction with the lengthy timeline of the project's planning and construction, pointing out that many new residents will already have moved in several years before the stations are completed.
After 9:45, we look into a new requirement for visa applicants to declare any criminal convictions.
Let us know what you think. You can leave a message here on our Facebook page, email us at backchat@rthk.hk, or give us a call on 23388266.

Tighter health checks for professional drivers / Labour Department's domestic helper ticket giveaway

    主持人:Janice Wong and Paul Zimmerman

On Wednesday's Backchat, we're talking about plans to tighten health checks for professional drivers.

To help improve road safety, authorities are planning to lower the age of mandatory annual health checks for professional drivers to 65 from the current 70. Those suffering from specific conditions such as night blindness would not get a licence.
While some support the changes, several representatives of the transport industry have spoken out against the tightened rules — saying the plan would force many drivers to quit.
So what do you think of the plan? Does it strike the right balance? Should even non-professional drivers be subject to more stringent health checks?
After 9:45am, we get reaction to free Ocean Park tickets given out by the Labour Department, in a new campaign for households to show gratitude to their domestic helpers.
