Music aficionado and band leader Colin Aitchison presents the musicians who were the huge, million-selling recording stars of an often forgotten era.
Before Bruno Mars, there was Bing Crosby, before the likes of Adele, there was Billie Holiday ... and before Justin Bieber ... well, where to start!?!
There’s some terrific music and stories from the ‘20s, ‘30s, ‘40s and ‘50s, plus a few laughs!
Every Sunday, 8.30am-9am
For the first show of the year, it's an all star line up, of course. Some big time orchestras featured, with Ambrose and his orchestra with Sam Browne, Abe Lyman and his California orchestra, The Duke... and more, as we swing into ‘26.

On this week's blooming VCT: Fresh from his holiday in Holland, Colin shares music from a vintage band he discovered there - The Ramblers - with one of their recordings from 1935 that also features an American sax legend. Sticking with the holiday snaps, there's the big 1929 tulip tune from Alfredo And His Band. A huge, cinemascopic number from 1957 brings vocalist Eugene Mumford up to the mic in front of Billy Ward And His Dominoes. And, close to Colin’s heart, the master of the slide, Jack Teagarden shows how it’s done on trombone, with a gentle swing arrangement of Stars Fell On Alabama.
