Music aficionado and band leader Colin Aitchison presents the musicians who were the huge, million-selling recording stars of an often forgotten era.
Before Bruno Mars, there was Bing Crosby, before the likes of Adele, there was Billie Holiday ... and before Justin Bieber ... well, where to start!?!
There’s some terrific music and stories from the '20s, '30s, '40s and '50s, plus a few laughs!
Every Sunday, 8.30am-9am
Some mighty voices appear on this week’s line up. Peter Dawson takes us on a Floral Dance, and Tony Bennett plays the Stranger. Ray Noble gets up on his Crazy Feet with the New Mayfair Dance Orchestra. The Ink Spots are in charge of the coffee break. And, we have a wonderful tale as told by Rob Roubian with Cliffie Stone, who are... “Too Pooped To Pop”!

One of the features this week comes from 1938. A special recording, in that it captures the moment when Artie Shaw successfully got Billy Holiday into the studio after a long time of asking, but there was a catch to the deal. Another king of swing features Helen Forrest who’s a bit bothered and bewildered, and from the swinging 1950s album Moonray, a fine performer who was just in Hong Kong, Sarah Hayes, who also says a quick hello to Colin.
