Music aficionado and band leader Colin Aitchison presents the musicians who were the huge, million-selling recording stars of an often forgotten era.
Before Bruno Mars, there was Bing Crosby, before the likes of Adele, there was Billie Holiday ... and before Justin Bieber ... well, where to start!?!
There’s some terrific music and stories from the '20s, '30s, '40s and '50s, plus a few laughs!
Every Sunday, 8.30am-9am
Assuming the roll of the doctor this week is Woody Herman. We’re soaking up the lush, cascading strings of Mantavani. And, we catch Bobby Darin in the bath! Plus, Colin takes a glance at the goings on in the year 1923... with a chance to feature some Eddie Cantor.
Two, count them, two, yes I said TWO eye tunes this week. Top sellers both of them. One from Emile Ford, doo-woppin’ right at the end of the ‘50s. The other from Stan Greening & his band. We’re rockin’ the blues with Josephine Bradley, hitting the ‘66 with Bobby Troup, and much more.

The focus, this week, is on the Glenn Miller revival. In 1946, Glenn Miller's widow authorized a new band to be formed under the name The Glenn Miller Orchestra. Led by Miller's saxophonist and vocalist Tex Beneke, we hear from him plus Jerry Gray, Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Anthony, Ralph Flanagan. And, of course, from the original Glenn Miller orchestra.
