Music aficionado and band leader Colin Aitchison presents the musicians who were the huge, million-selling recording stars of an often forgotten era.
Before Bruno Mars, there was Bing Crosby, before the likes of Adele, there was Billie Holiday ... and before Justin Bieber ... well, where to start!?!
There’s some terrific music and stories from the '20s, '30s, '40s and '50s, plus a few laughs!
Every Sunday, 8.30am-9am
A big part of our Sunday singalong this week is Teresa Brewer, who previously brought us the million selling 'Music Music Music'. This time round she sing-sing-sings the Louie Prima penned classic. Also on the show, a 1941 recording of Henry Levine and the band, with a very popular vocalist of the day who nobody really knows of today, Linda Keene. Plus the story of poor poor Robinson Crusoe from George Hall and his orchestra in 1937.
We love a sunset, and this particular one is provided by a very young Andy Williams, right back at the start of his career. By way of slight contrast, Nat King Cole is focused on the moon in 1944. We have the mighty Blossom Seeley belting out Yes Sir, That’s My Baby, classic harmonies of the Andrews Sisters and, in tribute, a 1959 recording from Dolly Parton.
