Tai Tam Gap Correctional Institution mainly accommodates non-Chinese male persons in custody. Owing to cultural and language differences, misunderstandings may sometimes arise between local correctional services officers and non-Chinese persons in custody. Correctional Officer Bala Harbindar Singh, himself of non-Chinese ethnicity, plays an effective role in bridging the two sides. His fair, impartial and patient approach to communication has also made him a role model for his colleagues.
Chung Lai-shan serves as an Assistant Clerical Officer in the Social Welfare Department. Though her post may appear ordinary, it plays an important role in connecting the community with social support services. From frontline liaison work and assisting in interest groups to proofreading departmental publications, every task speaks to her attentiveness and warmth.
Through her dedication, she helps strengthen ties between the department and the community, reaching out to more people in need.
