Water not only plays a vital role in the ecosystem, but also stands as a witness to human cultural history.
In recent years, the Government has advocated a water-friendly culture, and this year’s Policy Address also proposed developing beach tourism and promoting water sports on beaches. Surrounded by the sea on three sides, Hong Kong abounds with beaches, rivers, streams, wetland, and fish ponds, such as Approach Beach, Lam Tsuen River, Tuen Mun River, Sam Mun Tsai, and Yim Tin Tsai, providing ample room for this water-friendly culture to flourish.
Starting with water, this series of “Hong Kong Stories” takes a close look at people’s stories growing from water, explores diverse water-friendly cultures, and visits those who “go with the flow”. Each episode uncovers water-related places to study their unique cultures, the relationship between water and local residents, and the community’s conservation efforts.
Indeed, Hong Kong possesses many waterfront sites. Provided that these sites can be revitalised and infused with energy, they can certainly manifest their uniqueness and showcase the water-friendly culture. Just as droplets gather to form rivers or oceans, they can also condense into stories between water and people. This series of “Hong Kong Stories” envisions that Hong Kong will develop a distinctive water-friendly charm!
