The annual Ani-Com & Games will be held at the Convention and Exhibition Centre from 24 to 28 July. It’s a one-stop shop for the latest animation, comics, games, models and more from various brands. One of the highlights is the debut “Dig Dig Island Toy Collectors’ Fair”, which is an assembly of nostalgic classics, personal gems and high-art collectibles, allowing anime and manga fans to exhibit, exchange and trade. The well-received “Elefunpop Art & Toy Show” continues to feature works by trendy designers and artists from worldwide, as well as the latest figures and limited-edition products. Other highlights include the Doujin culture fans' favourites, the “Creative Paradise” and the “World Doujins Paradise”; the “Anime Cosplay Competition”, the “Asia-Pacific Cosplay Carnival”, the Finals of the “Canvas Project Idol Selection Competition”, the Anime Music Festival which will feature popular Japanese singers and voice actors.

Fencing World Championships; Football Festival

The Fencing World Championships, hosted by Hong Kong for the first time, will be held at the AsiaWorld-Expo from 22 to 30 July. Over 1,000 top fencers from 120 countries and regions will compete for a total of 12 men’s and women’s individual and team foil, épée, and sabre events. The Hong Kong team will feature 24 players at home. Recently risen to a new high of world’s third, Men’s foil team will feature Cheung Ka Long, Ryan Choi, Leung Chin Yu and Harris Ho. As for individual events, defending champion Ryan Choi has returned from injury, while two-time Olympic gold medalist Cheung Ka Long is fighting for his first World Championships title. The women’s team will see Daphne Chan and her teammates competing for the best.

Football Festival; Wayne McGregor: On The Other Earth

Hong Kong Football Festival will be staged again at the Kai Tak Stadium, bringing together four top European teams. On 1 August will be Premier League runners-up Manchester City, playing Serie A champions Inter Milan; on 5 August, Premier League Chelsea, under new manager Xabi Alonso, will compete against Serie A giants Juventus. All four teams have won the Champions League, and there are so many stars. Some even shined at the World Cup. In addition to the two matches, Manchester City and Chelsea will train publicly on 31 July and 4 August, respectively.

Book Fair; Wayne McGregor: On The Other Earth

The annual Book Fair returns from 15 to 21 July at the Convention and Exhibition Centre. This year’s theme is “Cultural Legacy | Joyful Journeys”, taking readers from the pages of books into the wider world. The “World of Art and Culture” zone, supported by the CCIDA, features the exhibition “World in Words, A Voyage of the Heart”, exploring travel literature through four major experiences and six interactive installations. Seminars by famous writers are also a highlight. This year’s heavyweight speakers include novelist Liu Zhenyun, who has won the Mao Dun Literature Prize and Chevalier l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres; Su Tong, Chinese avant-garde fiction writer; and Luke Kennard, award-winning contemporary British poet and novelist.

International Arts Carnival

The annual International Arts Carnival is back! From July to August, troupes and artists from the UK, Spain, Canada, Korea, the Mainland and Hong Kong present more than 100 family-friendly performances and events, featuring acrobatics, dance, music, theater and multimedia.
The Carnival also brings art into the community. “Imagine! Play!” will feature community picnics and free interactive art exhibitions at the East Kowloon Cultural Centre and Yuen Long Theatre. Other activities include Summer Family Cine Fest, workshops, online programmes and exhibitions. Check it out!

Wayne McGregor: On The Other Earth; Ancient Egypt Unveiled

From now until 2 August at Tai Kwun, “Wayne McGregor: On The Other Earth” is the world’s first “post-cinematic choreographic installation”. A 4-meter-high, 8-meter-wide, 360-degree cylindrical LED screen presents 12K panoramic 3D images, turning the dance performance into an immersive viewing experience.
The approximately 1-hour program combines performances of Company Wayne McGregor and Hong Kong Ballet. It combines digital imaging, spatialised sound and A.I. to allow a maximum of 20 audiences each time to connect with the hyperreal dancers, reshaping definitions of movement, form and performance.

Volleyball Nations League HK; Bubble Planet Hong Kong

Volleyball Nations League Hong Kong is returning to the Kai Tak Arena from 8 to 12 July, with 12 intense matches over the five days.
The six powerhouses include China’s women’s team that many people are excited about, defending champion and winner of last year’s FIVB World Championship, world number one Italy, as well as the Dominican Republic, Canada, Belgium and Ukraine.
The tournament has a total of 18 teams. featuring six teams from three pools each week. Hong Kong is one of the pools. After three weeks of preliminaries, the eight highest-ranked teams will advance to the finals in Macao at the end of July.
