Taxi e-payment rules / OpenAI's Pentagon deal / Gen Z emotional distress survey / Combatting rising obesity

On this programme, we started things off with a closer look at an upcoming regulation that made the availability of electronic payments mandatory for all taxis. From April 1st, all taxi drivers in Hong Kong will be required to offer at least one QR-code-based and one non-QR-code electronic payment method.
We then heard from our tech correspondent about OpenAI’s controversial deal with the Pentagon to use its models for US defense systems. The US military had blacklisted OpenAI’s rival Anthropic, deeming it a “security risk”. The move came after Anthropic refused to cross ethical boundaries, including using AI tools for the purpose of fully autonomous weapons without human oversight.
After the break, we chatted with a representative from the Mental Health Association about a recent survey by the organisation which found that over 40 percent of Gen Z in the city had been affected by emotional distress.
And lastly, we heard from a senior health official about a new government initiative that aimed to combat rising obesity rates in Hong Kong.

Pause of US military aid to Ukraine / Beijing "Two Sessions" meeting update

    主持人:Brian Wong and CM Chan

On today's Backchat, we talk about the deepening rift between the US and Ukraine.

This comes as US President Donald Trump paused military aid to the war-torn country, following a clash with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky.
In a televised address following the announcements, French President Emmanuel Macron called these developments the beginning of a "new era", adding that France would not rule out sharing its nuclear deterrence to protect European allies against the "Russian threat."
In response, the Russian Foreign Ministry described Macron’s speech as "out of touch" and "contradictory", in an intensifying war of words between the two countries. Is the international order shifting? We'll ask the experts.
After 9:45, we bring you the latest from the "Two Sessions" meeting, currently under way in Beijing.

9:05am-9:45am: Withdrawal of US military assistance to Ukraine

9:05am-9:45am: Kenneth Houston, Lecturer in International Relations at Mahidol University (Thailand)
