Blue collar workers' evolving expectations / Tree larvae infestations

    主持人:Andrew Work and Ada Wong

On Tuesday's Backchat, we're talking about blue collar workers' evolving expectations.

Citybus has just launched flexible contracts hoping to attract at least 100 new recruits, at a time when bus companies are struggling to hire new staff. Under the new terms, drivers will be allowed to take two days off after working three days in a row, with monthly salaries of up to HK$21,000 for drivers working 10 hours a day. Previously, bus captains were usually entitled to one day off a week.

Two years ago, the same operator launched half-day contracts in response to an increasing trend of younger people opting to take up two part-time jobs rather than a full-time one.

Is the service industry ready to implement more such arrangements? Will this have an impact on operating costs? We'll find out.

After 9:45, we learn more about a larvae outbreak affecting some of the city's trees.
