Bangladeshis can be described as the EM among EMs in Hong Kong, numbering only a few thousand in a city of millions. Yet as business ties between Hong Kong and Bangladesh deepen, their presence is expected to grow. Against this backdrop, fostering mutual understanding between Hong Kongers and Bangladeshis is essential for harmonious coexistence.
To explore this dynamic, we spoke with 13 members of the Bangladeshi community in Hong Kong. They represent a range of backgrounds, from recent arrivals to those born and raised in the city. How easily do they adapt to local culture? What are the main barriers, such as language or food? Do they face discrimination? And ultimately, do they consider Hong Kong a second home?
