Space economy roundtable meeting / Gaza Board of Peace

On Thursday's programme, we began with a discussion on the new space economy. The Chief Executive's Policy Unit recently hosted a high-level roundtable to discuss boosting development in this area, in alignment with the nation's development plan.
After the break, we turned our attention to Gaza. US President Donald Trump has been lobbying world leaders to join his so-called 'Board of Peace' for the besieged enclave, which the US leader says he may chair for life. We heard from a former British politician and a scholar on the issue.

Teacher misconduct cases / Animal abuse

    Presenters:Jenny Lam and Car Ha

On Monday’s Backchat, we’re looking into teacher misconduct.

Some lawmakers have called on the government to implement more stringent checks on teachers as figures show that there were 304 professional misconduct cases involving teachers last year, three times the number in 2022. Out of those, 71 were struck off, 38 got reprimand letters and 149 received written warnings.
Some of the more serious cases involved child abuse, theft, and teachers having inappropriate relationships or improper physical contact with students. And while the Education Bureau checks teachers’ criminal records every three years, critics argue that this is not enough.
After 9:30, we discuss animal abuse, amidst a spate of suspected cruelty cases.

    9:05am-9:30am: Teacher misconduct cases

9:05am-9:30am: Mervyn Cheung, Chairman of the Hong Kong Education Policy Concern Organization

9:05am-9:30am: Rizwan Ullah, Kowloon City District Councillor and member of the Youth Development Commission

    9:30am-10:00am: Animal abuse

9:30am-10:00am: Fiona Woodhouse, Deputy Director (Welfare), SPCA

9:30am-10:00am: Phoebe Lau, Volunteer Member of the Hong Kong Animal Law & Protection Organisation and Barrister
