Benni Pong and Homan Wang - Urban biodiversity and how we can rethink urban nature / Check in at 11 : Nadeem Hussain / Dr Xoni Ma - Outdoor Wildlife Learning Hong Kong

Happy Thursday Brew! On the show today, we kick things off at 12:10 with another 'Brewed in HK', as John Prymmer brings us more awesome tracks and a few dates for your diary from the local music scene. Then, at 1:25, Chef Jason Black joins us live from South Africa. Today's recipe is 'Poule au Pot', which sounds beautifully glamorous, but is literally just French for 'chicken in a pot'. Yes, the world's most poshly named chicken soup. Do ask him any of your foodie questions below.

This Thursday on Brunch, Cruz sits down with landscape architect Benni Pong and Homan Wang, co-founder of WEEDsilience. They’ll discuss urban biodiversity and how we can rethink urban nature.
Just after 11, we’ll go to our weekly *Check in at 11* segment, where Alishiba Matloob speaks with Nadeem Hussain, Director of MGI Community Centre— a hub serving Hong Kong’s ethnic minority communities. They’ll preview the centre’s special July 1st event for HKSAR Establishment Day and reflect on what the day means to them.
And after 11:30am, Cruz talks about nature education with Dr Xoni Ma from Outdoor Wildlife Learning Hong Kong. Together, they’ll discuss why hands-on outdoor learning matters and share practical ways families can help children reconnect with the natural world during the summer holidays.

Rachel Liu and Tanya Chou - Zoos on the mainland / Stuart Morton - Bio Cycle / Christine Wong - Vibrant Hong Kong Table / Raphael Blet - The Bright Side

Presenter:Shazia Awan-Scully

On Brunch this morning, we’re moving through language, lifestyle, and a real sense of connection, looking at how the things we learn, the spaces we live in, and the rituals we share all shape our everyday lives.

After 10, we talk about zoos on the mainland with Rachel Liu and Tanya Chou.
At 10.30, as Hong Kong heads into those hot, humid summer months, we all know what comes with it: sticky air, sudden downpours, and plenty of unwanted bugs creeping into our homes. We’ll be joined by Stuart Morton from Bio Cycle, sharing smart, practical, and more sustainable ways to keep our living spaces pest-free without turning them into chemical zones.
Then after 11, we’re welcoming back a friend of the show, Christine Wong, author of The Vibrant Hong Kong Table, who’s in Hong Kong talking all things food and also teaching mahjong. We’ll be exploring flavour, culture, and how time around the table—playing and eating—can bring people together.
And after 11.30, Raphael Blet brings us The Bright Side, a feel-good roundup of uplifting stories from around the world to carry you through the rest of your morning.
