    Youth development and opportunities

Join Brian Wong this week as he discusses youth on the mainland.

China's youth unemployment rate has been declining with December figures showing a drop to 16.5 percent for those aged 16 to 24, down from 16.9 percent in November. Despite this, competition remains fierce, especially with around 12 million university students graduating each year.

To discuss this issue, Brian Wong is joined by Professor Li Cheng, Director of the Centre in Contemporary China and the World at the University of Hong Kong, and Mallie Prytherch, a researcher at the same centre.

Weekly Roundup / Sino-US trade tensions

    Presenters:CM Chan and Chloe Feng

This week, we’ll explore the renewed Sino-US trade tensions that have once again captured global attention. Following significant policy changes, the US has raised tariffs on Chinese shipments by 145 percent on top of existing levies. In retaliation, China has announced an increase in its tariffs on American goods to 125 percent, stating that this will be the last increase, as “it will no longer make economic sense” to raise duties further. So what will happen next? How will this conflict affect global trade? Tune in to Trending China to find out!
CM Chan and Chloe Feng will be joined by Cui Zhiyuan, Professor of Political Science at Tsinghua University’s School of Public Policy and Management. The discussion will highlight how the mainland could emerge stronger by seizing this opportunity to transform its economy.
