China has been the bloc’s largest trading partner for 16 consecutive years, while ASEAN has been China’s top trading partner for the past five years. And about two months ago in November, the two sides upgraded the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area to a “3.0 version”, signalling a push to future-proof Asia’s trade flows.
