WHERE ART AND MUSIC COLLIDE
The connections we are making this week are with works created by Paul Cézanne, Henri Fantin-Latour, John Collier and Gabriel von Max, inspired by the story of Tannhäuser and Wagner’s music.

KANDINSKY REVISITED II
We continue our look at how Kandinsky’s works, creative process and theories became an inspiration to so many contemporary composers.
We will first be hearing American composer Paul Osterfield’s 'Kandinsky Images' of 2009. He bases his four movement work on Kandinsky’s In Blue, Several Circles, Twilight and Rider of the Apocalypse.
And we delve into the music of British composer Edward Cowie, whose undergraduate studies in Physics and practical studies in Painting have been integrated into a ‘fusion-world’ of ideas where science, the visual arts and music coalesce in a creative continuum. In his 'Kandinsky', commissioned by The English Guitar Quartet in 1995, Cowie doesn’t address specific paintings by Kandinsky, but the artist’s points, lines and planes.
