The world’s largest water party is coming back to Hong Kong! Set against the spectacular backdrop of Central’s skyscrapers and Victoria Harbour, the S2O Hong Kong Songkran Music Festival will immerse partygoers in a world of music, water, and lights, featuring high-energy performances by world-renowned DJs and artists with stunning visual effects and 360 degrees of water splashing experience.

To address this issue, the Hong Kong Observatory has spent years developing monitoring instruments and warning systems, continually enhancing its forecasting capabilities for windshear and turbulence.

Located in the Central and Western District of Hong Kong, Lung Fu Shan is a mountain peak that stands at an elevation of 253 meters. It wasn't until 1998 that the government officially designated the surrounding area as Lung Fu Shan Country Park, which is also the smallest country park in Hong Kong. Despite its small size, Lung Fu Shan Country Park is full of character. For instance, the park features the historic Pinewood Battery, which is listed as a Grade II historic buildings in Hong Kong and serves as a reminder of Battle of Hong Kong history during the past. In addition to its cultural heritage, the park is also rich in ecological diversity. The streams within the park are home to various organisms, including freshwater prawns and stream crabs. By observing carefully, visitors may also spot traces of wildlife such as porcupines, masked palm civets, and short-nosed fruit bats within the park.

The 2024 Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races return to the Victoria Harbour, bringing you legendary dragon boat races off the Tsim Sha Tsui East Promenade on 15–16 June. Thousands of the world’s top dragon boat athletes will compete for glory against the backdrop of Hong Kong’s stunning skyline.

Resembling a large garden for its residents, the Garden Estate is comprised of Phases 1 and 2. Phase 1 consists of seven residential blocks named after flowers, while Phase 2 has five blocks named after birds, and therefore once dubbed "Seven Flowers and Five Birds". Built by the Hong Kong Housing Society in the 1960s, the Garden Estate is the first public housing estate in Kwun Tong. In the 1980s, Phase 1 was redeveloped into the current Jade Lotus Towers and redevelopment of Phase 2 will commence in 2026/27 at the earliest. There is a remarkable Indian Banyan tree planted near the playground in Phase 2 of the estate. Over the past decades, the tree has witnessed changes of the residents, from newly-wed couples to three-generation households. As redevelopment is about to commence, the residents take stock of their precious memories, recounting how the constant presence of the tree is woven into the fabric of everyday life. Trees are like amiable friends in our neighbourhood, not because they can talk to us, but because they quietly stay in their places, watching the residents and the community grows. Times Change – Public Housing Design in Evolution Various types of public housing reflect the change of times. From resettlement blocks to different architectural design, including landmarks such as “H” shape blocks, twin towers, trident and harmony blocks, has been adopted taking into account people’s livelihood needs, with a view to resolving the housing problems and improving residents’ quality of life. Places Change – Public Housing Development in New Towns With the growing population in Hong Kong in the 1970s’, and the shortage of land available for development in urban area, a large amount of building land was required for alleviating the housing problems. At that time, the Government implemented the Ten-year Housing Programme for the development of new towns. Sha Tin District is one of the first generation new town development areas. With comprehensive ancillary transport facilities and formation of land by reclamation along Shing Mun River, it had more development edges. The first public housing estate in Sha Tin District – Lek Yuen Estate was completed in 1976. With the rapid development of housing estates in the District, a complementary livelihood network was formed, giving the fullest play to the community connection edge, and laying a foundation for the synergy effect of public housing and community development. With the gradually saturated development on both sides of Shing Mun River, alternative development sites had to be identified. The former Assistant Director of Housing, Mr. KONG Churk-fan, Joseph, perfectly combined housing construction with the geographical location, and developed the unique Kwong Yuen Estate on the hillside, which was an exemplary model for site-specific construction. Homes Remain – Continue Pursuance for Ideal Homes In 2017, the Government promulgated the planning report of Hong Kong 2030+ to establish a framework for the overall spatial planning, land and infrastructural development of Hong Kong, so as to alleviate the housing problem. The Northern Metropolis is the major development project. New area development is a great challenge, and the Government aims at enhancing the speed, quantity, efficiency and quality in terms of public housing construction, so as to enhance the well-being of residents, and continue to build ideal homes for the public.
